Scenic Route

Some dreams take the scenic route.
When I was eight years old, my best friend and I used to sit under the low branches of the evergreens in her yard and play make-believe. That shady little space was our office, our farmhouse porch, our grown-up life headquarters. We’d talk about our futures like they were already written.
In every version of the story, I was three things: A child psychologist, the owner of a horse farm, and an author.
Life, as it does, took its winding roads. There were heartbreaks I never saw coming, responsibilities I didn’t plan for, and seasons that felt more like survival than dreaming. But here’s the beautiful, surprising thing about dreams planted deep in a little girl’s heart…
They don’t die easily.
Today, I’m a biblical counselor, sitting across from hurting hearts, helping people untangle their stories and find hope. I don’t own a horse farm… but I do have a dog as big as a horse, and that feels pretty on brand for how God writes my life with a wink and a smile.
And the author part? That one took almost 50 years.
But today, I finally feel like I can say it out loud without whispering it… I’m an author.I actually got to hold MY book in my hands today!
This book carries pieces of my heart, my faith, my questions, and the deep belief that beauty can rise from the hardest ashes. I cannot wait to get it into your hands.
I would love to celebrate this long-held dream with you at my launch event on Saturday, March 14 from 6–8 PM at the beautiful, historic Pump House Art Gallery (1 Enderlin Circle, Chillicothe, Ohio).
I’ll be signing books, reading an excerpt, and yes, there will be refreshments and lots of hugs.
If you’ve ever had a dream that felt delayed… this night is for you too. Dreams don’t expire. Sometimes they just take the long way home.
